Re digitize problem
We have just had several of our shared storage drives die on us in the last couple of days. As a result we have lost some media and need to redigitize. We are working on a 13 part series, 2 camera shoot. Usually at least 40 hours per episode. The episodes in question were 95 percent done with changes when the failure happened, so we would rather not re-digitize all the source footage…just what is needed to rebuild the sequence.
Source footage is dvcpro HD, shot time of day.
Problem is on redigitize, Final cut isn’t sensing the change in timecode on the tape fast enough to respond, and cue up the shot.
If timecode jumps from 30 mins to 55 mins on tape, when trying to capture a clip at the 55 minute mark the machine is pretending that the tape is at the 31, 32, 33 34 min mark, even though those points dont exist. when it finally realizes it has passed the 55 min mark and starts to rewind, it usually shoots past the 55 min mark back to the 30 min mark, and then shoots forward again…going through the same process.
We are basically having to redigitize clips in chunks based on the original timecode segements.
I redigitize on an Avid DS all the time with this type of time of day record, and don’t have this problem, so i’m assuming it has something to do with final cut. (we rarely have to re-digiitze in FCP…usually just work in HD, and spit it out when done.
Is there a setting somewhere that we are missing? We’ve tried switching deck prefs, but haven’t found the magic combination. We have both 1400 and 1700 Panasonic decks.
Any help would be appreciated
