Re-compressing MPEG2 files
Hi,
Every now and then I have to take an existing MPEG2 file and re-use it. This often requires having to re-compress the file from a very high bit rate down to a lower one, due to my client wanting to only produce a DVD5 rather than a DVD9.
Compressor does a pretty good job (once its going) of this but my issue is…
…Why does Compressor, and in fact Quicktime, take such a long time to even read the original MPEG2 file? If I drag and drop it into Compressor its takes at least 15mins and much beachballing before it even acknowledges the file! Then does the same again when I drop a setting onto it.I think Quicktime is trying to parse the whole file, or something like that and im wondering if anyone else out there has experienced the same problem and maybe found a way around?
Thanks,
Tom.
