re: audio won’t go on timeline
Posted by Eileen Cowin on August 3, 2010 at 12:47 amAll of a sudden I can’t get the audio to come with the video when I drag it to the timeline. I can hear it in the viewer. I set the in and out points and then when I drag it down, only the video shows up.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

August 3, 2010 at 1:43 amIt is a piece I have been working on for a while. So…the audio is on. If I capture JUST the audio..I can drag that into the timeline but I can’t bring them in together. I can hear it when I play the whole clip in the viewer.

August 3, 2010 at 2:34 amIt’s hard to tell what’s going on by your description. When you say audio is on, that may mean you are hearing the audio but it doesn’t mean the audio tracks are enabled for editing.
Also instead of dragging and dropping a clip, what happens when you take a clip, mark in & out in the clip, mark an in point in the timeline, make sure both video and audio tracks are enabled ( as Chris said, the little indicators to the left of the track name) and then edit in with the F10 overwrite command.

August 6, 2010 at 2:40 pmI have been working on this for a few days and I still can’t figure it out BUT……it only happens with this one project. It was fine with other projects I started this week.

October 19, 2010 at 7:23 amHi there, I am not sure if this post is still ongoing, but I am having exactly the same problem with a wedding I am editing in final cut pro 6. So far most of the clips I am dragging into the timeline from the viewer window have both video and audio drop in together without a problem, but one particular clip, where the bridal party are coming down the isle and I want to use the live sound for, won’t let the audio tracks into the timeline. I can see the audio track’s grey shadow if I hold the mouse and hover the clip over the timeline but as soon as I let go only the video track drops into the timeline.
I’ve been working on this project for days and I know for a fact that the other day, this particular clip’s audio dropped into the timeline fine.
Was this problem solved for Eileen yet?

October 20, 2010 at 6:21 pmNo one really solved it but I found that if I moved the video and audio tracks so they “landed” on a different track, it seemed to work. So..if all the other audio tracks were on track one…I moved the linked video/audio tracks so the audio would be on track 2 or 3. That seemed to work.
Good luck.
Eileen
