Raylight performance issues
Hello,
I’m in a situation where I’m evaluating various forms of editing software. I am working on an HD feature that I expected to shoot in HDV but the DP came with an HVX 200. Great guy, great images but I’m having problems with the workflow. I came from Premiere 6.5, but used the Vegas 8 demo to cut an HDV short and absolutely loved it. That would be no doubt what I’d be using if not for the DVCPro HD issue.
I still want to use Vegas, but before I commit to an editing solution, I have a performance issue with my machine I need to resolve because I can’t make fair judgments right now on software.
I have a mix of quicktime encoded on a mac for DVCpro HD and MXF files also from the HVX200 after I told him to start transferring in MXF to make integration easier.
On my machine, I can run Raylight Green no problems, but Blue video lags behind audio. Similarly, the QT files freeze the video frame after a few seconds while the audio keeps playing. I have a sense this shouldn’t happen, but I can’t find good detailed information on what it takes to run DVCpro HD even after searching the forums.
My question is, is something wrong or is this the best I can expect from my machine? Should it be able to hold up for a feature-length production (mostly straight cuts, a few effect shots)? I had zero problems with HDV even on my old XP computer so I’m wondering if this is specific to the MXF/QT.

750 GB internal hard diskI will be acquiring a RAID array for actual editing, but I’m holding off purchases until I get this sorted out.
Thanks,
