Raylight and Media Manager
OK, I know for most of you using Raylight, this may sound redundant, but I’m a bit anal so here goes;
I’m now using Raylight (Thanks Bob for your past help), and it seems the way to go for long projects. Even though he mentioned keeping all MXFs and Raylight reference files in one place for backups, I’d like to try something different.
I have (6) 30 min projects going with about 2 hours footage per project (interviews & b-roll). In a perfect world, I could use just the media for each particular project and then go on to the next project. But I will be pulling assorted MXF media from the other 5 projects. As well as imported graphics, videos, etc.
My dilemma comes after I’ve backed up all the projects and 6 months later I want to re-edit just one project. In the Raylight workflow, I’d have to re-load the media for ALL 6 projects, since I wouldn’t know what clips I took from one project to use in another project.
But just for kicks I tried Media Manager in Copy-mode, and it seemed to copy just the MXF files in that Sequence (I haven’t done further testing). I realize I’m making duplicate MXF files, but at least I know they are just for that particular project and can back it up along with any imported files for just that project.
Weird thing is that even though it copied the MXF files, it didn’t copy any Raylight reference files (or any that I could find) yet it still played back in FCP.
Has anybody tried what I’m attempting – or have similar Raylight workflows??
Thanks in advance,
Bill
