hello, this is my first post on here so if ihave done something wrong please guide me in the right direction. i am curently running final cut pro 5 and have one problem. my friend uses version 3 and after capturing a clip he can simply ‘save clip as..’ which means that he can keep his clips all arranged in folders that he assigns the clips to, however when i try to do this in FCP 5 it simply captures and ‘untitled’ appears in the footage tab. this also means that my capture scratch is ful of untitled clips and i have to rename them and put them in different folders. is there anything i can do so that straight after capturing a clip i can simply save the raw footage to a folder, so that for example; if i have a clip of me i can save it in a ‘me’ folder and if i have a clip of my frined chris i can save it in a ‘chris’ folder. many thanks for your time.

Name the clip before you capture now, or log & capture the clips so that they are prenamed.

Both you & your friend should open up your FCP manuals & look up “Log & Capture”. It’s best to avoid using FCPs Capture Now feature if the material your working with has timecode. If you don’t have timecode (VHS, for example), then you have no choice, but if you do have timecode, there’s nothing to be lost, & much to be gained by logging your tapes. Most of the ‘bugs’ that people have with media management & project management are related to people not logging their tapes properly.

BTW One of the things you do when yo log your footage is to name each clip before you capture it.
