    hello all

i’m trying to figure out if something like this exists already but have drawn a blank so far, was hoping someone might be able to help here?

i have a long, almost 3 hour composition filled with clips and am using dan ebberts’ modified version (https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/227/8944#8948) of the motionscripts jump-cut expression to jump the playhead randomly along this comp.

this results in short random hard cuts but i really need to be able to cross-dissolve between clips and vary the length of the fade in the expression, as well as the duration of the clips and the frequency of the jumps

has anyone ever done this before or know how it might be possible?

    many thanks in advance!

i don’t think it would be possible with a single layer, since you couldn’t cross fade with just on layer…

you might be able to use dan’s expression on the footage layer, then duplicate that layer and rig up the opacity of the top footage layer to fade-in/out with every other random segment.

that would be some work, and it still wouldn’t give you the random durations for the segments.

it would be faster to simply set random in/out points for your footage layer (duplicating each time) and then use the keyframe assistant>sequence layers (choosing to overlap and dissolve top layer)
