Wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

I’m working in FCP 7.0.3 and monitoring Audio through the Line-out port on a Mac Pro (2×2.26 Quad Core Intel Xeon) (16GB 1066MHz DDR3) (OsX 10.6.6).

Occasionally during playback, maybe once a day, the audio will freak out and give me the loudest most god-awful sound of feedback, noise, and garbled insanity.

It’s hard to describe because it makes me jump back in my seat and start slapping the keyboard to stop playback.

Once I stop playback, and play again, everything is fine.

Any idea why this is happening, or more importantly, how do I make it stop?

I’ve had that happen when an audio file is 44.1k (or something other than 48k). That said, I feel like I’ve had it happen at other times too, but the 44k problem has been the only identifiable issue.

    Nearly blows out your ears.

    Thanks Dave and Christian.

I have been doing the quit application, restarts, preferences, but its so hard to judge because it happens so randomly.

Looking at my sequence, I am indeed working with a music track that is 44.1. I’ll convert these in the future, because as you’ve experienced, it is unbearable when it happens.

Makes me afraid to press the spacebar.
