We recently got the Adobe Production CS5.5 suite, and I’ll be working mostly in AE, but also Premiere, Photoshop, illustrator etc. My AE project as it is becoming more complicated with cameras and effects takes a long time to ram preview. And a couple times it has popped up “out of memory”, i think those were the words, and I had to shut everything down and reboot. I’ll be doing a lot of film editing and animation. Right now textography, which I will do a lot of. I animated a dollar bill blowing away with freeform and the page turn effect that I think slows me down a lot.

    Here’s the current computer makeup:

    •MacPro4,1
    Processor – 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory – 6GB 1066 MHz DDR3
Graphics Card – 2 x NVIDIA GeForce GT 120, type GPU, bus PCIe

We’re running 10.6.8 OS and I boot in 64bit mode (does 64bit really make a difference?)

My thinking is that we need more RAM. Where is a place online that sells good quality RAM for a good price? Let me know if you need more info.

Also, are there any tricks to using AE so that I can edit without constantly waiting a minute to see the slight changes? I’ve heard of proxy files but I don’t know much about them. New to AE

    Thanks

Other World Computing (macsales.com) is a good vendor for memory upgrades.

Max out your RAM, always. Mac Mall, Mac Zone, Micro Center…
