Hi guys, long time reader (THANK YOU FOR ALL THE HELP), first time poster.

I have a layer that is an image of a brush stroke. When I apply Simple Choker, I can keyframe it so that all the pieces (or splotches) of the brush stroke slowly grow into existence. I want to have that effect wipe over the brush stroke, left to right. In other words, I want the Choke Matte value to start high (lets say 50.00) and decrease over time down to 0, but I want the start point of that process to cascade across the layer from left to right.

I was hoping I could use a gradient ramp layer and sampleImage to achieve this, but since my brush stroke is one individual layer, I don’t seem to be able to get sampleImage to map luma values of individual pixels on the gradient layer to the Choke Matte values of corresponding pixels on my brush stroke layer.

Is there any expression or effect to achieve this? I feel like I’m missing something simple here…. I hope I’m articulating this correctly. Any help would be much appreciated.

I was looking for the same thing.
I used a “time displacement” effects to achieve this.
