    Hi,
I am new to after effects, so forgive if my question sounds stupid. When I try to RAMP Preview my composition, it only previews part of what is in the timeline, and stops after a few seconds. I don’t know what the problem is, the size of my work area is set to the whole of the timeline, and the RAMP Preview options are set to default.

    Thank you

It is likely running out of RAM. During a RAM preview, it generates uncompressed stills of each frame and quickly fills up your available RAM, which is already being eaten up by just running after effects and other background applications. You should try adjusting the resolution of the ram preview to half or even quarter. When I preview my HD comps, I have to render it at half just to get more than maybe 10 seconds, and thats with 4GB of ram. I hope this was helpful.
