trying to apply a ramp effect to a text layer. Yeah it’s easy I know. Problem is the ramp is not showing up. Had a look at different drop downs, tried adjusting the ramp etc. Looked at the manual…. Nada.

    Anyone have any suggestions,

    Thanks

    Hmm,

in CS3 it works, though a better way would be to use the “Gradient Overlay” Layer Style, as it is pinned to the text and moves/scales with the text. It does however not rotate.

Pre-CS3 the best way is perhaps to add the ramp to a Solid, and apply the text as a Alpha Trackmatte.
You can then Parent the solid to the text, and you will be able to rotate/scale/move the ‘ramped text’

I have discovered that you can make the gradient overlay layer style rotate along with your text by adding the following expression to the Angle property of the style:

    value+(transform.rotation*-1)

Now when you rotate the text layer, the gradient should rotate along with it.
