    Hi,

I want to fade an image from full color on the upper left corner to transparent on the lower right corner. Is there any way I can do this without a mask? Maybe a ramp effect? If so, how would I do that? Hope you understand the Question. Thanks…

1-Make a solid layer above the footage layer.
    2-Apply the ramp effect.
3-Drag the white effect point to the upper left, with the black to the lower right.
4-Make sure the modes panel is visible in the timeline, then set the track matte (TrkMat) of the footage layer to “luma matte”.

The ramp will then affect the opacity of the footage layer. Drag the white & black effect points to tweak.

    Good Golly Miss Molly…

Welcome to the World of Track Mattes. Your mission if you decide to accept it, A Luma Matte with a (you guessed it)Ramp Layer.

Top Layer – A New Solid (Ctrl Y) any color, size of comp
Effect>Render> Ramp then move the Start of Ramp to the Lower Right Corner, and the End of Ramp to the upper left.
Precompose the layer(the ramp needs to be calculated so you can use it) by, Layer> Pre-compose (check the Move all Attributes (it moves the effect).

2nd Layer – Your Image Layer
Now in the Modes Column under TrkMat, choose Luma from the drop down.

And a third layer or more if you want to see what’s below the lower right corner.

Yikes, I lied, you don’t have to pre-compose.
