RAM previews won’t show full quality.
Recently when I try to do a RAM preview AE will only play it back at about 1/4 quality. I have the resolution selected to full in the Comp window and it shows the comp full quality when still, but RAM preview is still low quality. Interestingly enough if I hit spacebar, it will playback at full quality, just not in RAM preview. I’m sure it’s just a setting I need to change but I have played around with settings for adaptive resolution limit, viewer quality, disk cache, video preview, and multiprocessing, all to no avail. Any ideas?

Look in the Preview panel. You have the option to set custom resolutions (separate from the viewer’s settings) for RAM preview and for Shift-RAM preview.
