So I am RAM previewing in AE and I am getting the slow playback and “low-pitched demon voice” for my audio no matter how low I put my settings.

    I’ve tried:

-Quarter resolution and even 1/16 resolution

-Making sure my color depth is at 8bpc

-Turning off all layers that could be slowing things down

-Playing back with “Skip” set to 1, 2, or even 5.

I am at a total loss and it is completely ruining my ability to work effectively since I can’t even get a good idea of how my animation is playing out.

    Any ideas?

Did your comp frame rate get accidentally changed to something really low?

    Nope.

    Hey Rob!

This happened to me too. Somewhere along the line an update disabled “cache before playback” in the preview window. Re-enable that and it should start previewing in realtime again.

A few more things to check:

Do you have “Enable Disk Cache” checked in preferences? Are you using a folder with sufficient space? Have you emptied the disk cache and cleaned your database and cache recently? Have you tweaked your “fast previews” settings under the viewer window (see image).

to both of your suggestions, yes I have done these things and I am still getting the same issue. I also constantly Purge All Memory and Disk Cache as well.

Not sure what else I can do…

What is the exact version number of AE you’re using?

The whole timeline has the green line, yes?

Do you have any third-party panels docked? Try changing to one of the default workspaces.
