  RAM Preview only working with a dialog or dropdown menu open

  Experiencing a bizarre issue with After Effects where RAM preview won’t exceed 2 frames per second, regardless of quality and frame skip settings. The green render bar is also flickering erratically.

  For some reason, when opening a dialog box (i.e. the Project Settings, Preferences, etc) or one of the main menu dropdowns (File, Edit, Composition, etc.) the preview will then play back with no problems behind that box/dropdown.

  So we’re muscling through with that awkward solution, but it would be great to have a permanent solve. This is happening in both AE 2019 and AE 2020 on a 2017 Retina 5K iMac with 64GB RAM.

  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
