  • RAM Preview not updating

Posted by Ocean Byrne on July 21, 2017 at 9:41 pm

I’m having some strange issues where I’ve done a ram preview (at quarter res and every other frame), and then I make a modification that affects say 20 frames in the middle, and I click ram preview again and it just plays me the last preview without updating anything. The only way I have found to get it to update is to Purge>Everything, but then it has to re-preview all the other frames as well as the ones that need updating.

To add to the confusion, it isn’t consistent. Sometimes it updates fine. It seems pretty prone if the edit is inside a precomp, but some times it happens on the main timeline too (which is set Always Preview This View).

    Any ideas?

Are you still mad at me because I like Adjustment Layers Dave? ☺

The problem is that instead of pressing 1 button and waiting 15 seconds for it to re-render my changed section – I now have to press/menu 6ish buttons, and since I like to see my changes in the context of what is happening around it, I have to wait 1.5 mins for it to re-render everything. Multiply that by my incessant tweaking of thing over and over 50 times, and it’s kind of a problem…

But yeah, such is life. And I guess I am fairly used to it. But I did chance to hope, even though it has forsaken these lands…

Are you using third party plugins? If yes, are they up-to-date?

Great clue Walter! I looked at the effects that I had attached to the layer and it was Mocha VR. When I disabled the effect (didn’t even need to remove it), the preview started updating again as expected.

Thank you! Hope this helps someone else too!
