August 6, 2009 at 8:10 pmYou couldn’t be as happy as I am! We did discuss video preview prefs and I/O but nothing I tried made any difference. The really odd thing is the AJA plug-ins I installed were not on the system before a week ago. I installed them last week at the request of the system builder I bought this new Mac from. He thought maybe they would fix the problem – they did not. So it’s very strange that uninstalling them somehow fixed the problem. But frankly I don’t care why it worked as long as it keeps working!
Something is a little “off” with the AJA plug-in for AE CS4. Apparently the ones for Photoshop and Premiere are OK, but don’t install the AE plug-in.
AJA is an EXCELLENT vendor and has provided killer support the few times I’ve called them. I’m sure this will be fixed soon. Until then, don’t install that particular plug-in component. Or do and then uninstall it – very weird.

November 20, 2009 at 3:58 pmJust wanted to post that we had the exact same issue with real-time RAM previews not working in AE CS4 and uninstalled the AJA plug-ins and POOF! Same exact result: problem fixed for us too. Thanks for posting all of this because I was getting pretty frustrated with this issue.

August 11, 2010 at 5:55 pmI recently did a clean installation of my entire system (early July). Now I’m running current OS, FCS3 and CS5. No problems so far with any of those products. I used the current AJA drivers without the desktop display options. I suggest cloning your system disk and doing a clean install from scratch, if you have the time. You can always revert if it doesn’t go well or an emergency project comes up. AJA also provides excellent tech support if you call them.

August 13, 2010 at 8:19 amSeams to be some sort of problem with pixel aspect ratio conversions.
If I use Aja Lhe in After Effect for outputting 1080 to refernsmonitor, then my rampreview don’t play reeltime. Atleast not if AE composition is set to native dvcpro hd (nonsquare). But if I change the composition settings to square it starts to play in real time. Is this normal? As I understand you should keep the native aspect of you sourceclip and use the compensate switch to make ae display the picture in 16:9. But doing that i get slow playback..
I have not had any problems before with reeltime rampreviews so I started to suspect the driver. So I uninstalled the aja 8 driver and reinstalled the 7.5.1 driver.
With the Aja 7.5.1 drivers Ae plays at 9fps (rampreview) with native dvcpro hd nonsquare. But if I change the compostion settings to square it plays in realtime. I usally put the compostition to square and 1920×1080 so I didn’t notice the slow playback until now. If you ramplayback from prores 422 square it runs realtime aswell.proress is another story thoue wich shows up purple in cs5. Atleast with the 7.5.1 drivers. Because the problem lies in 8bit you can switch to 16bit but then i loose the reeltime rampreview.
The new aja 8 driver gives slower rampreviews. Even with composition set to square i only come up to 22 fps with ajas version 8 driver? So I stay with Aja 7.5.1 driver.
If I want to run my dvcpro hd native (nonsquare) but still use aja and have reeltime previews. What suggestions do you have?
You don’t have the same choices in AE with Aja driver version 7.5.1 and 8.
Aja driver version 7.5.1 gives an option AJA Kona 1080i 25 8 bit.
In Aja driver version 8 i can’t find this so Instead I choose AJA 1080i 25 RGBA. Is that 8 bit? -

September 24, 2010 at 2:37 pmThank you! I have an 8 core mac with a Kona Card, Running bootcamp windows 7, AE CS5. I was running into this “Not Realtime RAM Preview.” Just want to confirm that deleting the Kona Plugins solved the problem.

February 8, 2011 at 10:19 pmI also have a Blackmagic Multibridge and my previews are NOT realtime when set to ‘accurate’. When set to ‘fast preview’ its almost realtime.
Very annoying on a 8core and such an expensive system!Strangly, first install of the blackmagic and the first run all went realtime! Just after second reboot its not realtime anymore and hasent been since. Tried all settings.
Is this a Adobe issue or Blackmagic?
One sitenote. I still find it strange there isnt a 1080p25 preset on BMD cards. I’m in a 1080p25 sequence in Aftereffects, so what preset do I choose? 1080p50 or 1080i50?
