I have noticed a complication with AE 6.5 when using Fractal noise plugin, usually on two or more layers. When doing RAM previews, memory signifigantly diminshes each time a new preview occurs. Until eventually AE error messages that two or more frames must be viewed for a RAM Preview. Is there a workaround for this. It seems to occur on both my XP and Win2000 systems. Restarting AE works but that is awfully ineffecient. Both systems have 768 MB of RAM. Win 2000 sytem is a dual 1 GHz processor, XP is a single 2.53Ghz Pentium4. I tried all kinds of different setups in schecret menu too and nothing seems to help. Any suggestions?

Are you using edit>purge>image caches between previews? You should.

yes. In this instance, it does not affect the memory available to the RAM Preview. In every other circumstance that option works. It is almost as if the OS or the program does not want to let go of the memory being used after the RAM Preview.

I’ve had that error every now and then, and restarting AE helps.

Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful, as I don’t know the cause. Perhaps upgrading to 6.5.1 would help?
