    I hate purging!

    AE CS3 8.0.2.27 MAC 10.5.3 QT 7.5 8GB ram

RAM previews get stuck to a certain cached number of frames and no matter how many times I hit ‘0’ it will only play those frames. And I’m only getting less than 15 seconds of RAM preview on an NTSC comp even though I have 8 gig ram. Some times it will only cache the first few frames and then start the preview. and will get stuck on those frames.
I just lowered the res to 1/4 and it still only caches the first few frames.
So I have to purge my image caches all the time and it is really a time drain.

Any suggestions as to what I can do to help this?

I have max Mem use is at 120% = 3.0 GB
    Max RAM cache 60% = 1.8GB
    disc cache – off

    thanks

I’m editing a grfx reel. Need to do lots of RAM previews to synch vis to an audio track.
Footage is mostly ntsc lossless and photo jpg compression.
It’s not that the previews are taking long to generate, it’s just that, for instance, if I change the work area after doing a ram preview I can’t just hit ‘0’ and get a new preview, it locks into the frames of the previous ‘0’ hit and I have to purge.
Or if I am working at 1/4 res then want to see full res, the preview wont load until I purge.
Is there something that will tell AE to purge with each new preview or some such?

    Thank You
