  • RAM preview “2 or more frames” question

Posted by Justin Hawley on May 16, 2005 at 5:52 pm

    Hello!

I recently got After Effects 6.5 (after working on 5.0) and the RAM preview was working GREAT! Now, I get an error stating “RAM Preview needs 2 or more frames to playback.”

    Please advise,
    Justin.

I get that every now and then — not sure why, but quitting and relaunching AE fixes it.

Don’t forget to save incrementally. (file01.aep, file02.aep, etc.)

Thanks for the replies, guys. Are your motherboards and all hardware compatible? I know ours is not completely, and am just curious if that is or is not definitely the problem.

    Thanks again!
    Justin.

Nope, that’s not hardware related. It’s a memory leak/ bug in the way how AE treats the composition pixel buffer. Certain plugins or expressions will cause this ‘cos AE won’t allow that buffer to be refreshed properly.

have you upgrade your AE6.5 to AE6.5.1 from adobe website. Try after upgrading it.

I’ve had this happen on the PC, and I’m pretty sure it’s a memory leak also.
Try the “purge all” in the edit menu. That should clear out the cache without rebooting.

Thanks for so many wonderful posts! It seems to be working again, after rebooting it always works, only now it seems to be temporarily “fixed”. I’ll take all your thoughts into consideration. Thank you!

Nope, the update won’t fix this, the problem is still there.
