I am running AE CS3 and C4D 10.111 on an 8-core macpro with 4gb RAM, soon to be upgraded to 8.

I am having bad interface response with c4d and AE. Not sure if its the graphics card radeon 1900, or RAM.

in c4d after i render a viewport, when i click off of it to say the object manager, it takes like 10 seconds for it to go back to an editor view.

also, i get garbled blocks of interface chunks when scrubbing values with a light.

in AE, my ram previews often dont work. i have to set it back to adaptive. IS OPEN GL a joke? or is this graphics card not really so hot? it did come in the top flight macpro…

I was excited by the speed of this machine, but right now it is not acting optimally. is there anything outside of more ram to optimize this thing. I am running cocktail. I see in my activity monitor that only like a gig is being used. could i have bad ram? has anyone had an experience like this???

Make sure you’re RAM is sitting clean.. meaning installed correctly. Depending on your configuration, RAM still needs to be installed in pairs; even on the quad/Xeon machines.

Check that first. Maybe it’s not fully in or mixed out-of-pairs.

Change your resolution to the next lower setting and see if that does anything. That would be a test for the vid card. Better yet, crank it down to 800 x 600 and take it for a spin.

I’m only on C4d 8.5 but I also run CS3 apps, including After Effects and I don’t have an issue and this is on a G5 iMac (non-Intel)
