Rainbow cursor again
Posted by Kurt on November 19, 2007 at 10:48 amWhats with the excessive amount of spinning rainbow cursor I’m getting in Cs3 AE8??
It seems like this version bears a striking resemblance to AE 6.5.
Am I wrong?

November 20, 2007 at 5:11 pmKurt, if we had the same problem as you, we could probably say right off the bat what might be causing it. But we don’t have that problem right now. So we could either ignore your request, or try to help you solve the problem by asking these questions: 🙂
– what other apps are running at the same time? Anti-virus?
– does Activity Monitor report any high RAM usage?
– what are you doing when you get the spinning BeachBallOfDeath?
– how big are the source files in the comp?
– does this happen with all comps/projects?
– are your source files on your system drive?
– Did it ever work properly on this system? Any changes since then? -

November 21, 2007 at 2:11 amI just read this in another thread and I think it bears repeating… Dave (and Steve) you are being too nice. 🙂
You should at least let Kurt know that his attitude wont get him answers any faster.
It annoys me to no end when people come here for answers and then mouth off to the ones trying to help them, geeez..

hah, yeah but if I’m not being a dick you guys never respond…
This thread WAS actually very helpful, so thanks all. I think there should be a tutorial / forum just on setting up the Memory in AE8
🙂So how much RAM should one have when working on 2k files…? 8GB 16GB? 1TB?
since AE8 is 32bit, does more than 8 really do anything. If its worth it, I’ll pay anything to never seen that stupid BeachBall again.
thanks!

VERY FEW questions ever go unresponded to — but keep in mind that I never fail to get rid of people who regularly cop a ‘tude and act like jerks. Maybe your’s are frequently incomplete, unclear and so full of ‘tude no one wants to mess with them???
Just a friendly warning.

November 21, 2007 at 8:04 pmYah thanks for the responses, this is a good thread.
Definately going to take yr advice on the paired-up RAM.
I have to imagine my problems have been stemming from lack o’ RAM.
BTW – in answer to earlier questions: I tend to work very clean / straightforward, None-Compression Movs, I never import MPEG or other off formats, I don’t rum alot of other programs, and when I do work with image sequences, I load them locally not from the server.I’ve tried the Nucleo before, never saw the benefit of that. Seems like the multiproc alone is more bug-free, and just as quick.
