  • RAID Formatting – “Resource Busy”

Posted by Graham Fisher on January 4, 2010 at 5:40 am

I’m trying to set up a Sans Digital MobileStor RAID.

The drive enclosure is set to RAID 1 mirroring. The drives are in the bays, and it claims to be good to go, but when I plug the RAID into the Mac, Leopard pops up a message saying, “The drive is not recognized.” It shows up in Disc Utility as mounted, but not in the OS.

When I attempt to format the drive(s) in the Disc Utility, it gives the negative response, “Resource Busy”.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. The data wrangler has not come through on this project, and now I’m scrambling to fill the gap.

    Much thanks!

    Graham,

The review at the link below suggests that reviewer had to format the drives before putting them into the enclosure. Also, I hate to say it, but the review was not very favorable.

    Thank you, David.

    I’ll give it a try.

Early on in the process, I’d asked some data wranglers for their favorite systems. They recommended Wiebetech as a solution that had never let them down. I gave this information to the producers of this project, and unfortunately, the cheapest solution (i.e. Sans Digital) won out.

And then the data wrangler fell through.

I’m very nervous about getting through the week without serious problems, and might push for them to just spend the extra couple hundred dollars on the right hardware.

    Thanks again,
    Graham
