radio waves syncronized to audio

Trapcode has a plug-in for this called Sound Keys.

well your in luck it’s a pre made filter under render render radio waves

there you will have your radio waves
(create a solid first and apply the effect to this)
then take your audio file, control click (right click on a pc) and select keyframe assitent then convert audio to key frames
a new layer will open up twirl this layer open as well as effects so you can see left chanel right chanel both chanels

from here, go back to your radio wave solid, press e to reveal effects twirl down the radio wave effect and then in there twirl down wave motion and option click (alt if your on a pc) on the stop watch for frequency.

when the expression controls open youl see a pick whip which looks kinda like an @ sign. click this pic whip button and drag your mouse the the “both slider” under your audio keyframes.

your done have fun!

if i use the keyframe assistant>conert audio to keyframes, it gives me a value depending on the amplitude, which then dosent seem to make any sense when i use the expression to link to the radio waves frequency. is there a way to edit the expression to link it to the tempo of the song or does this only interpret the amplituse?

The amplitude of the audio is representative of the rhythm so if the waveforms are strong and distinct enough it should work fine.

ok, ill try using that, but how do i change the value of the amplitude to relate to waves per second?

To help beat isolation, it may be possible to pull the audio into an audio editor, and EQ the audio to highlight beat frequencies and make them stronger, making it easier to get the radio waves to behave as you want. Then you can reimport your original audio later. SoundKeys is easiest, but if you don’t want to purchase that, then give AE the best audio you can – not the best sounding for the final video, but the best for extracting the data you need.
