Radio Squelch Audio Transition Technique
Hey there, a technique question, rather than a technical one:
I’m working on a short ‘In Memoriam’ piece for a former radio jock. A number of his audio tracks have a distinctive sounding transition between them that you’ve probably heard on radio before. The music is playing along, and the transition sounds like the track is slowed down suddenly and then sped up before ending in a high pitch ‘squelch’. It’s reminiscent of the moment you start shuttling forward on a deck. In total, it might last one second, but it’s quite effective for changing from one music clip to the next.
At first, I thought it was just a stock sound, but each transition is slightly different, coming straight out of the last note of the music. I thought that maybe I’d be able to emulate it by speeding up the audio, but increasing the speed sounds–well, just like sped up audio.
I tried working with the variable speed option, but this doesn’t seem to be affecting the audio–just the visuals.
Any thoughts on how they might have done this, how I might emulate it? Thanks for any ideas in advance.
