R18 and Big Sur
Posted by Gerrit Velthuis on November 14, 2020 at 1:25 pmHas anyone tested whether C4D Visualize R18 still works under OSX “Big Sur”?

November 16, 2020 at 11:48 amThanks Allan,
That’s always the official statement of Maxon, but (most of the time) that means “older versions of C4D are not supported anymore”.
In the meantime they often still work (is my experience).
I’m happy with R18 because I only need C4D every now and then. However, upgrading to Big Sur and finding out it doesn’t work anymore would mean a lot of trouble (or costs).

December 1, 2020 at 3:44 pmAre you running R18 on Catalina? If so, how do you install it? Or was it installed prior to upgrade to Catalina?

December 1, 2020 at 4:57 pmNo, Chris, I skipped Catalina. Stil working under Mojave.
Didn’t need the new stuff, so I thought “never change a winning team”.
Done that over the years, saved me a lot of time and trouble.
But now I want Big Sur because my iPhone and iPad are running “out of sync”.

December 1, 2020 at 5:03 pmI, too, am on Mojave and also follow the -don’t fix it if it is not broken- mantra. Same issue: pad and phone require the update to sync. Not at all pleased with this Apple move. R18 may well run in Catalina but I would not be able to do a clean install and re-install R18 because the installer is NOT 32-bit compliant. The application itself is. So…maybe? Not interested in breaking everything…

December 1, 2020 at 7:36 pmYes, right.
Guess I’ll stay with Mojave for the time being. The (last) customer I work for at the moment will stop next year. Then I won’t need that much power anymore and might install R18 on the older iMac on my desk and keep it there. Thanks for the feedback.
