R12 Render to Picture Viewer – Unable to write file?
I’m having a strange problem (assume it’s a bug) with R12.
How to duplicate:
1. Set the render settings
2. Render to Picture Viewer
3. Now change render settings (increase frames, change AA level, anything)
4. Render to Picture ViewerI will get an error “Unable to write file” at step 4 (above). Now if I exit C4D R12 and then re-open C4D R12 and load my project (make no changes at all) and then Render to Picture Viewer it works fine.
It’s as if R12 doesn’t release the file handle after it renders the first time or something??
Anyone else have this problem?

if it’s saying it can’t write the file it’s usually because the file is open in some other program. On the Mac where a preview is visible in the Finder just having the file selected in the finder makes it busy (the price at the moment for not having to open a file to see it)

I never made this connection in the last….ten years. I get mad and change the save file name.Thanks Brian.

That’s interesting, but I don’t have Finder open and no other app is active or using the file?
Also, that wouldn’t explain when I quit C4D and go back in, it works fine?
I “think” what’s happening is any changes I make to the render settings, after I’ve rendered to Picture Viewer, is placing a lock or “in use” file attribute which is not being cleared by C4D when I exit the Render settings screen.
Wonder if this is fixed in R13?

I tried your steps in 12 to test it and I didn’t have that problem at all (except if the file was in use by selecting it in the Finder) so I don’t know what’s happening to you. You could try Maxon Support.
