If that’s the case, i stand corrected.
(And indeed it makes some sense, the XDcam transfer tool has a setting allowing you to extract material without codecs installed. I should have known.)

Also makes sense as the codecs are MpegII based, thus always non-free (although someone else may pick up the bill)

But on the other hand, if the codecs come with FCP, what’s the problem then? Anyone should have them installed…

Hope you got a good night\’s sleep. Not really interested in getting into a pissing contest with you…I do realize that the suggestions I made were not ideal… But the original poster made it clear that he wanted a solution that would work on various editing systems….both Avid and non-Avid…..WITHOUT installing additional codecs. Animation (and PhotoJPEG) are both standard codecs and included in all versions of Quicktime. They are both widely used in post. I am aware of the issues with both of them….but it was the best solution I could come up with, given the parameters of the original question. Nobody disputes your knowledge in this area, but it doesn\’t give you license to be a jerk. You could have explained the gamma issues, etc. to the original poster and convinced him to alter his approach and workflow without being insulting.

Sorry about being a jerk, nothing personal to anyone.

BUT, (and this is why i bitched, and is not aimed at you)

These fora are HIGH on Google, so people will read posts and use the info years from now.
(My webstats tell me i get visits on my site from links in posts made several years ago)

So it is not a good idea to pump too much incorrect / incomplete information in here. But that happens way too much to my taste.

At least put in a few AFAIK or IMHO’s in postings if unsure.

And yes, i’m guilty as charged as well, but do my best to set things straight where possible.
