I am running WinXP Pro 64-bit and working in AE 6.5 Pro. When I try to output to QuickTime using Sorenson or Sorenson 3, my whites are gray. I even made a pure white solid to make sure my white was white.

Here is the funny thing. On my monitor, it’s gray. On my laptop running WinXP the whites are OK. On my Mac OSX laptop, again the whites are OK.

Is there something odd with QuickTime and AE on a 64-bit system? OR does someone else out there have another answer?

Thanks in advance for your time and help with this odd, odd issue!

Sorenson screw with colors pretty badly. If you can, try using a different codec such as MPEG-4.

Also, Quicktime does have known gamma issues when moving between mac and PC systems, but I haven’t heard of problems between winXP and 64 bit.

Thanks for the advice. I tried MPEG-4 and now it looks blue-ish, in QuickTime. I come from a print background and I do have my monitor calibrated. Anyone else have any suggestions? Thx-

I found a post on Apple’s forum for Windows QuickTime.

    Open Quicktime 7
Click on Edit tab and go to preference,
    then click on Quicktime Preference.
One that opens click on Advanced tab
You will see a selection for video or direct X.
Click on Safe mode (GDI only)
Then click on Apply, then OK.
Restart Quicktime and play a movie to test.

Be sure to restart QT or the changes won’t take effect.

I am seeing PURE WHITE again!
