Larry Jordan says don’t update QT until you’re sure it’s compatible with FInal Cut Pro. But I’ve got a project I can’t open because it says my version of FCP isn’t as new as the project edited by my assistant.

Software Update says my FCP is current (6.0.2) and I know my QT version isn’t (7.3.1). Any advice on how I can open the project? SHould I upgrade to the current version of QT?

    Thanks

The current version of FCP is 6.0.3. I’m still using the same versions of FCP and QT as yourself and as far as I can tell the latest version of FCP won’t appear in your software update until you update either the Pro Apps update first or Quicktime first. I can’t remember which one it is.

Normally, FCP tells you it can’t open a project because your version isn’t as current as the version that created the project in the first place, rather than it being an issue with QT not being current.

If you don’t want to upgrade everything right now you can ask the person who created the project to generate an XML file of that project for you. Using XML you can open the newer version of the project in your earlier FCP 6.0.2 version.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks, Don. That’s what I suspected.
