Quicktime to FLV?
Posted by Hana Backland on February 23, 2009 at 9:45 amHello All,
I rather urgently need to convert some anamorphic standard definition PAL video (&audio) quicktime files to FLV or SWF for my client.
There are 5 films in total no longer than one minute each.
Obviously I’m after best quality but have been rather bamboozled by all the software available.
Can I get the job done well with freeware?
Help please!
Many thanks in advance.

February 23, 2009 at 10:49 amHi Hana,
The Flash codec is property (I guess) of Adobe.
Any application that use the encoder must pay a license to the proprietor.
So unless Santa Claus decides to pay the license I don’t think we will have any freeware with flash export for Mac.
Cheers,

February 23, 2009 at 2:52 pmSure to go from Quick time to FLV or SWF you might want to try Sorensen Squeeze or Episode Pro. Both are software that you need to pat for but they do alot more than compressor alone.

February 23, 2009 at 2:56 pmThanks so much Kent,
The ‘freeware’ comment was made through ignorance and urgency…I was just lost in the sea of possibilities and didn’t know where to begin!
Many thanks for your advice.

February 23, 2009 at 3:11 pmIf you have installed AE CS3/4 you should have the Flash component that lets you export from QT to Flash. I don’t know if Adobe sells the Flash Export component as stand alone.

Is good to ask and is good to know that in this job we have to pay for everything.
We can use QT freeware because some how we had already paid the QT Pro license.
I was just joking with Santa Claus because here is very very hot:-)

February 23, 2009 at 6:29 pmHi Hana.
When I was looking for software to convert QuickTime videos to FLV last month, I downloaded a demo version of On2’s Flix Standard. Here’s a link: https://www.on2.com/index.php?387
If you like it after trying it, you can purchase it for $39, which is a pretty attractive price. (A pro version, with more features, costs $249.) It was quite simple to use, and did a great job for me.
Hope this helps, and good luck!
Jim

February 23, 2009 at 6:56 pmWe’re using Episode Pro from Telestream. Regular Episode is a cheaper alternative.
The beauty of this software is you pretty much can convert anything to anything. It’s a great piece of software.

February 23, 2009 at 7:41 pmFlash 9 onwards is compatible with H264.
Export your movie as Quicktime H264 then change the file from .mov to .flv.
It will open in Adobe Media Player and SWF & FLV Player.Cinematographer, Steadicam Operator, Final Cut Pro Post Production.
