I recently compressed .mov files to m2v files via compression Original file was 13 min (2.79 GB) then compressed Mpeg2 m2v (481.7 MB)

However, the files would not play on any mac that did not have final cut studio installed???? I was getting an error message stating that the file could not be played.

Once we installed the studio, were we able to play these files? Any reason why? Is there a codec that comes with the studio that is not in quicktime.

    please help
    Jared

    Thanks

Yes, the codec that comes with FCS is the QT MPEG-2 decoder. You can purchase this component from Apple’s website for $29 for systems that don’t have FCS installed. Also, there are free MPEG-2 playback options, such as using the VideoLan Client (videolan.org).
