My system is running v5.5.3, for the time being.

I want to install and run demo software on the
same system, but it requires a more recent Quicktime version than the one officially required in the Avid QT Matrix.

I am willing to “experiment’ editing my very important Avid Projects with one of these later versions installed, if only to be able to enjoy some well-deserved diversion.

Question- if I do go off spec for Win v5.5, what
is the worst case scenario for a QT infraction?

You can never be sure. I have always run the latest QT version, unapproved, or not. I’ve experienced odd malfunctions like an improper 10-bit waveform monitor in the cc tools. The worst problem with running unapproved QT versions is that you get chastised in this forum and support at Avid isn’t forthcoming.

Why not just clone your boot drive and do the demo install / QT update on the clone? This will save you tons of potential grief.

Thanks for your report, Bill. I think I will try it,
unless I hear some horror stories.

Thanks for the suggestion, Mark. That’s a good
    idea.

    =1 for a clone.

If you have a western digital or a seagate hard drive, you can visit their respective websites. They each have free disc clone softwares for their customers to use.
