  • Quicktime not displaying Closed Captioning on MPeg2 files but VLC does

Posted by Tom Matthies on March 29, 2013 at 12:05 am

I generated an SD MPeg2 file with closed captioning using Compressor and a .scc file. I can get the resulting closed captioning to display when I play the file using VLC Player but not when using QuicktimePro 7 or QuicktimeX. I have downloaded and installed ClosedCaptionImporter by dragging the ClosedCaptionImporter.component folder into the Quicktime folder in the Library folder and restarting Quicktime. The “Show Closed Captioning” is now showing in the Quicktime View menu but it is grayed out. VLC will display the captions but not QuicktimePro. What am I missing? Something simple, I hope.
