It is definately possible, but depends on the configuration of the computer where you want to play the file. In general, I’d say that you’re much safer with for example mpeg-1 or various .wmv files.

    Second that.
MPEG2 is not universally playable. You rclient either knows exactly what they want or they have no clue. I’m voting for NO CLUE.
Demand your client provide you with precise specifications for every parameter of the file they think they want. Open the MPEG2 settings options in Compressor or QT Conversion or Cleaner and consider at the tens of thousands of possible combinations you can get wrong.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

    Yep.

MPEG2 can mean almost anything. Tell them you need more information like screen size, fps, audio sampling rate, data rate…

10-to-1, their eyes will glass over and they’ll send you to someone else who’s more “technical”, and at least there you’ll have half a chance of getting useful information, or you’ll find out what they REALLY wanted was a DVD that will play back on the Windows DVD player, not Windows Media Player.

If they do want something that will play on Windows Media Player, consider purchasing a little app called Popwire Windows Media Component from popwire.com. Once installed, it gives you the option in the Export Using QuickTime Conversion to export as WMV.
