    Hi Guys,

I have hd footage from the sony ex1.
It was imported using fcp as qt movies but I’m doing the edit on a pc.
The movies are opening but no footage is appearing.
What do i need to download for these to show up?

    Thanks,
    Simon.

XDCAM EX .MOV codec only exists on systems with Final Cut Pro 6.0.2 and up. It does not exist on any other Macs or any Windows computers. That’s why it’s IMPERATIVE to backup those BPAV folders with the .MP4

There is a solution but it’ll cost a few bucks.
    https://www.calibratedsoftware.com/QXD.asp
It’ll allow the .MOV EX codec to play on non FCP systems including Windows.
Download the demo and see if it behaves with your NLE.
Note the demo limitations on the page as they are kind of funky (messes with the picture). I think it’s an unfortunate way to have a demo given it makes the product look broken but in any case give it a try.

Normally on Windows it seems NLEs either want MXF or MP4.

BTW FCP can now export an edited master back to XDCAM EX MP4 rather than just MOV.
In addition ClipBrowser can now take that MP4 (sans BPAV folder) and rewrap to MXF for NLEs.
So you edited FCP EX video can be easily moved to other NLEs with a rewrap rather than encoding to another codec.

And like a broken record I’ll repeat.
    BACK UP THOSE BPAV FOLDERS!
