    Unless I’m mistaken, I was once told that when you install FCS on a system QT is automatically upgraded to the Pro version.

    This is true for all the systems I have, at work and personally.
    All except 1.

    This system has a Snow Leopard OS on it while the others have mostly Leopard.

    Did Apple change something in the Snow Leopard OS where QT is not upgraded to Pro or is there something else going on.

    I looked in System Preferences and there is no QT icon where all the Leopard systems have it and on the Snow Leopard system I have limited options to save a file as instead of the many different codecs that I have in Final Cut.

    Any Ideas.

    On Snow Leopard, you need to install Quicktime 7 from the install disk

    Quicktime X in the default Snow Leopard install and does not contain the pro features.

    John, you are talking about the OS install disk or the CS install disk.
    I’m guessing the OS, but just want to clarify.

    This was very well documented when Snow Leopard was released.

    I installed QT 7 and it shows up in the Utility folder, as it should.

    My problem is that I’m trying to do Screen recordings of a web site and QT 7 does not have that option, QT 10 does, but does not allow me to save it in a format that can be used in FCP.

    Is this normal, I’ve been told by producers and editors here that have their own laptops or FCP systems at home that you can do what we are trying to accomplish.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks;

    [Dave LaRonde] “There is an easy-to-use and inexpensive recording utility called iShowU that will do what you seek, and which records in any codec available to quicktime. Check it out:

    Dave;

    Thanks for the response.
    I know there is software that can do what I want, but it’s a budget thing at this point.

    Yeah $60 is not a lot of money, but when you have 5 suites it starts getting up there.

    I’m just trying to confirm or deny if it is possible to do with the tools built into Snow Leopard. QT 10 or QT 7 pro.

    It does not look like it to me.

    Thanks for the help.

    I just did this for the project I am currently working on. Yes, QT X records from the screen in H.264, and at a strange frame rate. I was, however, able to drop it in Compressor and convert it to 1080i ProRes @ 23.976 (my editing frame rate) pretty quickly and easily, with very nice results.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks. We currently work in 8 bit uncompressed SD.

    I guess we can mess around with it a little more and see what we can come up with.

    Thanks again.
