    Good Afternoon,

When using Quicktime in the time line, it is not smooth when you are attempting to scroll along the timeline to search for an edit point. I’m assuming the huge file size is the issue.

Is there anyway to deal with this? Convert to another file? If so, what?

I’m at the mercy of you very kind experts for any direction.

As always, thanks for your help and thanks to Creative Cow for providing this extremely valuable service.

    Mark

Well, it’s not really the fact that it’s a QuickTime file although Vegas does need to call QuickTime to process it which is some overhead, as much as it is the codec used in the QuickTime files. What codec do these files use? You can use the Inspector (Ctrl+I) in the QuickTime player to see this info, or just right-click an event in Vegas Pro and go to the Media tab and look at the Video Format.

Some codecs just require more processing power to edit and the options are to get a more powerful PC or convert the files into something that’s easier to edit like CineForm AVI.

    Hi John,

Thank you very much for replying.

The codec shows H.264 in the media tab.

I’ll try the Cineform AVI conversion.

    Again, thank you!

Yea, so you are trying to edit one of the toughest codecs to work with, in a file format that is native to the Mac, but on a PC… CineForm will make this a much smoother experience.
