  • Quicktime Import Doesn’t Show Up!

I just tried importing a 640×480 Quicktime file (animation codec) into FCP 5 and the audio palys, but no video. I can set ins and outs and place it in a sequence but the video doesn’t show up.

Strangely though, I CAN play the clip and see video on my NTSC monitor (but I can’t see video by trying to play from the sequence)!! Weird. Any suggestions?

My ultimate goal; trying to import clips, etc. from an old Media 100 system. I though FCP could work with ANY quicktime files. Also, my sequence settings are DV50.

    Thanks,

    Bill

Not sure why you’re not seeing something, but you’ll have to render the animation codec before it plays back in real time. Why not export from Media100 as DV50, 720×480 (not 640×480) 29.97 fps, lower field first, and then import into your fcp sequence? It should show up and you won’t have to render.

But you should be seeing something that says you need to render. Perhaps you have the “play base layer” setting on in your timeline? That setting plays the bottom layer if layers require rendering instead of showing blue render needed screen. Good idea to turn that on when working with clients. Looks more professional. Since your base layer needs rendering, perhaps it’s just showing nothing.

Thanks for all the info, Brett!

I guess I forgot to mention that I’m using an OLD Media 100 system!!! I think it’s still at version 7! So, DV50 codec is nowhere to be found!

I also tried rendering the animation codec and it looks OK in the sequence – I just can’t see the video! Oh well.

A while ago I heard that FCP had a M100 codec available for importing M100 files into FCP. Has anyone heard that?
