Quicktime h.264 and AE 6.5
Posted by Kevin Snyder on September 26, 2006 at 7:02 pmI need to encode some video files to h.264. Does anyone know if I upgrade to Quicktime 7 if I can render out of AE 6.5 in h.264? Thank you.

September 26, 2006 at 7:32 pmYes. You’ll need to Export to Quicktime Movie, then choose your settings (H.264 for compression, etc…)

September 26, 2006 at 9:04 pmThank you for the quick response…Do you happen to know if QT 7 plays well with AE 6.5? I saw some post a while back of people having a tough time with QT 7 in 6.5. Thank you.

September 26, 2006 at 9:40 pmI’m running AE 6.5 pro and QT 7.1 on Win XP. Haven’t had problems with any of the 3 different systems I have it running on. I seem to remember some reports of 7.1.2 causing some problems, though I’m not sure what platform. Looks like the current release is 7.1.3, so maybe they fixed some things.

September 26, 2006 at 9:45 pmActually, maybe I had those two reversed (too little sleep)…someone reported problems with 7.1.3 and AE 6.5 and not 7.1.2

September 27, 2006 at 5:22 amI agree in most cases. I think in the case of h.264 the “export” option is the only way to specify advanced encoding options such as multipass encoding mode…in which the Render Queue does not allow you to specify.
