Quicktime for DVD
I’ve shot and edited a show on Beta SP. I’m about to start editing. I’m using 8 bit uncompressed. The client wants to send the video out to a local DVD authoring company in their area, and they’ve asked me to provide the show as a quicktime file. What’s the best way of doing this? I expect the show will be about 5-7 minutes in length. Do you think this well fit on a DVD? They are an out of town client. Thanks.

7 minutes of 8 bit Uncompressed SD with two channels of audio will be 8.89 GBs, just over a dual layer DVD-r.
5 minutes will be 6.35 gigs which will fit on a dual layer dvd-r.

Export the piece in 3 parts (if that is ok with the DVD Author) which will fit onto 3 DVD’s. It should be no issue for them to re-assemble.
Otherwise be a smart arse and ask them how they manage to accept 30min+ pieces as Quicktime. FTP???

I often use Toast 8 which will allow my to span large files over multiple discs. It’s easy to use and can be restored on a PC or Mac.

< We may have confused DVD authoring with trying to send the authoring company a DVD. Use an external hard drive to hold the 8-10 gig file. Breaking it up onto DVDs should be simple and they should be able to reassemble it easily. In my world, this doesn't happen. Send it to them as a single file, exported from the timeline, in the format is which you are editing, to and external FW drive. Ship the drive to the DVD authoring company. Umm, call them first, find out how they prefer to receive your big file. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
