Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Quicktime files not importing correctly

Getting back to my original problem…haha.

It doesn’t seem to be codec-related. Any files that would, by default, open in QuickTime do not work properly in Vegas. I have Movie Studio Platinum 11. I plan on trying the method previously mentioned of uninstalling QuickTime and iTunes and re-installing them. I will try that tomorrow and see if it solves the problem.

    Thanks.

I went on mac and converted the video on that converter
to a Mpeg format 100% quality but ended up with triple the size of the original video. however the video remain with same quality. but now i can play it on windows and import on vegas
however with this huge size file i hope i dont have 20 hours of rendering….

Well… at least you got something workable. 😉

I don’t have time or disk space to convert a file every single time I want to render it as .mov. The main reason I’m concerned is because I typically render footage I’ve added effects to from After Effects as DNxHD codec .mov files. I thought that to be the original problem but Vegas simply won’t work with ANY file that would, by default, open with QuickTime.

James, as already mentioned, several of us have no problems opening up most MOV files, be they ProRes, DNXHD, etc.
The problem has to be with your computer so you need to find out which update messed you up and fix it. Scott Simpson mentioned iTunes but that’s only one example. Have you tried using System Restore to roll back to a known working point?

I know this is frustrating for you but, as Mike said, QuickTime works great in Vegas Pro for us so something about your computer is causing QuickTime files to fail in Vegas Pro.

Just as an aside, I have a problem with QuickTime on my Windows 7 computer. This started a few weeks ago but I can’t launch the QuickTime player anymore. It just hangs in memory. I can use QuickTime in Vegas Pro. If I launch the QuickTime player without any media and let it hang, then I can launch media that will play fine. I just can’t click on a piece of media and have the player come up as normal.

This started right after I allowed Microsoft updates to run which I only do once a month after a complete backup, so I need to restore my computer to a point sometime last month and see if I can fix this but it’s just another piece of information on how Microsoft updates regularly screw up your computer.

If this use to work for you, then you need to seriously invest in backup software and perform daily incremental backups and the next time it happens you can restore your computer to a time when it worked. That’s what I do. Acronis TrueImage has saved my computer a couple of times from Microsoft updates.

Yeah, I’ll chime in again on this.

Quicktime in Vegas, both in and out, began failing for me immediately after updating to the latest iTunes. I searched the error message and came across several message board threads where people were complaining of the same thing — concluding that the latest iTunes package was wrecking things for some people. Not everyone, obviously, but enough identical botched installs with matching side effects that people were warning Win7-64 users to steer clear of the update.

So, I used Revo Uninstaller to get rid of all the Apple products. That included the Apple software support, Quicktime, Itunes, Bonjour — everything that Apple installs. Revo takes the extra step of letting you get rid of the Registry entries and leftover files associated with the software. Again, Revo lets you sweep the registry and your hard drive clean of the offending product, going well beyond what Apple’s uninstaller will do for you.

Reboot afterward, of course. Probably run CCleaner an extra time, too.

Then, reinstall Quicktime from a fresh download.
Also reinstalled DNxHD — that might’ve been a repair install, actually.

    Back to working normally now.

John and the others are correct in saying Quicktime should work smoothly in Vegas, or at least much more smoothly than it’s working for you.
