  • Quicktime compressions for 2hr project to send to composer? Help?

Posted by Sean Fine on September 1, 2006 at 2:06 pm

    Hello,
I am using FCP 5.0.4. My project is shot and cut on dvcprohd 24p. I am on the East coast and want to send my composer on the west coast a quicktime of the project. I tried compressing the project using H.264 but it was estimated that it would take 27hours. Too long and the composer also said his system cannot handle that codec. I basiclaly need to get my project onto a DVD as data so it has to be about 4g. Does anyone have any suggestions for a widley used codec that could accopmplish this in under 12hours.

    Thanks,
    Sean

What can the composer work with? you’ll most likely need more than one DVD.

    Sean,

Since DV is about 12-13gb per hour it would be pretty hard to send a 2-hour program on two DVDs — that would be more like 6 or 7 DVDs. Your best bet is to export the project to DV and send it to him on a small inexpensive firewire drive that he can send back to you.

Or burn the many DVD’s (more like 10 of them) breaking your sequence down to no more than about 20 minutes of show for each export … That’s all you can fit on one 4.7 gig DVD…

FW drive solution is a good one!
