I’m working on an FCP system that has an AJA card. The sequences are set to DV/DVC PRO and media is being captured by the AJA card 8 Bit to DV.

We are rendering animations of still photographs with the DV/DVCPRO codec in after effects and bringing them into the FCP system but they don’t look good.

Can anyone recommend a render compression setting that would look good but not need to be rendered in the timeline?

    Thanks

[cmc2008] “The sequences are set to DV/DVC PRO and media is being captured by the AJA card 8 Bit to DV.”

Capturing as DV was a mistake, you should have at least captured as DV50 (i.e. DVCPro50) However, the biggest problem is using the DV codec to compress your graphics. That should not be done in AE, nor should it be done on the timeline.

The first part of the solution is to export from AE using the animation codec, which will unfortunatly have to be rendered. There’s no way around that… Then later, once you’re completely done with all of your editing, go into Sequence Settings and change the compressor to 8-bit or 10-bit uncompressed before re-rendering the entire timeline. This will preserve your graphics in their pristine state and they will look wonderful.

    Good Luck,
