I’ve got a machine that when after effects is launched displays an error, “After Effects warning: Couldn’t open QuickTime video output component.” I have no idea what was done to make this error occur. I’ve tried reinstalling FCP, which I is nice because it puts a Pro version of QT, which I thought would be clean and non-corrupt to take care of the problem, but to no avail. Is there something, aside from deleting the entire system and reinstalling that I can do? Also does anyone recommend a good support site for this type of non-creative question?

    Cheers,
    E

    Hi Eric,

Another couple of small things to try:

    i) Have you trashed your AE preferences yet and/or reinstalled After Effects?
ii) Do you have any hardware supporting your Final Cut (Blackmagic card or similar)? If so, have you reinstalled the latest drivers for your card?
iii) Do a Repair Permissions on your system drive.

The Video Out component is the thing that lets you see your AE comp on an external monitor, which is why I ask about your FCP hardware.

    HTH,
    Ben
