Quicktime alpha problems
Hello All,
I’m really new to trying to learn after effects so guessing this is a really simple problem.
I’m exporting a quicktime from flash with ‘Alpha-transparent’ selected, then exporting this file again from Premiere as: Quicktime 100% Animation compression millions of colours+, which should have the alpha channel.
Then when i import into AE 6.5 it asks how to interpret the footage, straight or premultiplied, i select straight. But when i drag the footage onto the comp or timeline it has a white BG as it did in the flash movie. Is there something i’m doing wrong or need to do?
Be really grateful for any help, as i thought it would be simple…

When you import the QuickTime file from Flash file into Premiere, do you see the white background? Premiere should show black where there’s alpha. So I think the problem is not that Premiere isn’t generating alpha or AE isn’t reading it, it’s that Flash isn’t generating it, or you haven’t made an alpha for Flash to generate. I’m not familiar enough with Flash to help much more past that, but if you watch the QT file you made from Flash in the QT player, does it show white or black behind it? (QT, I think, should show black for alpha areas like Premiere does.)

Yeah, i’m thinking flash is the problem, the quicktimes it exports aren’t proper quicktimes there flash .swf files that have been re-named.
I did try exporting again with a blue or black BG in flash, and when i played these files in the QT player the bg was white, which seems there might be and alpha in the file. but premiere and AE both have problems understanding the file.. so i gave up.. and am using .png sequences now instead…
Thanks for your help though, was starting to think after effects would be really hard to learn if i couldn’t even do something simple like that.
