HI- Im Running OS 10.4.11 on a G% 1.8 DP with 4G RAM. FCP 6.0.2 and QT 7.5(149.5) Wondering if there are any known conflicts with uppgrading to QT 7.5.5? BTW is this the right place to post this type of question? if not, where? Thanks for your help.

We installed it on one of the systems here and it was a Holy nightmare. Corrupt renders left and right. Any P2 speed adjustments turned to frozen frames after rendering, text turned black; it was not pretty. We had to immediately revert using pacifist.

Man. That sounds like fun, Richard!

The last time Quicktime was updated for a major iTunes overhaul it was a holy nightmare as well.

Thanks for posting your results and sorry you had to go through the trouble.

Could you give some specifics about your text and what speed changes you were making, and exactly what format of P2 you’re working with. I can’t reproduce the problem with a couple of different types of media and am wondering if it’s exclusive to DVCPROHD.

    All the best,

Specifics regarding text, it was the text generator and not the Boris 3D text. It had the Bad TV effect applied to it (which I hate, but our EP loves!) and randomly the text would stop wiggle (per the effect) and appear black. Also, the show credits (which had no Bad TV effect) didn’t show up at all. When rendered they disappeared completely. It was the strangest thing, but once I reverted it was fine. If there’s anything else about the font, let me know and I’ll tell you.

Regarding the P2 footage, it was DVCPRO HD footage in a Pro Res (HQ) timeline. It was timelapse footage, so it had speed effects of up to %10000 applied to it. I later found out, it was the shots that had both speed effects and motion effects that would freeze. They would play for about a half second and then freeze for the duration of the clip. If I applied a filter or moved the clip, it’d turn to RT Extreme green bar and play out fine, but as soon as I’d render, freeze frame again.

Regarding the specifics of the media in the timeline. It was a Pro Res (HQ) timeline at 23.976 with Varicam footage captured at Pro Res (HQ), DVCPRO HD, and Mini DV. GFX and CG were all delivered as Pro Res (HQ) Quicktime files. I had problems with several DVCPRO HD and Mini DV clips, though moreso with the DVCPRO HD.

Thanks a lot Richard. I’ll see if I can get some material like that and try it.

Working fine on a ProRes timeline. Original footage is DVCPRO HD. Had backup in place prior to QT upgrade.

Yeah, I’m reading about problems everywhere… COW, MacFixIT, Apple, etc. QT 7.5.5 seems to be listed as the culprit, thought it looks like iTunes 8 has it’s own share of uglies. I haven’t installed those on any of my machines yet, but if I want the new iPhone firmware, I apparently have to install them…

After tne 7.4.5 QT meltdown, I’m tending to stay away from any QT update that comes out for the iPhone or a new iTunes. Seems to be a problem…
