well I have upgraded to 7.4.5 & the Pro update.
    I had nothing to lose

lets say it has not changed anything as far as my situation is concerned.

an associate of mine upgraded his QT 7.3 to 7.4.5 and developed output issues immediately.
    He is running Tiger.

[Dave LaRonde] “Let some other schlub be the guinea pig.”

I was just a schlub until I upgraded Quicktime, now I’m rich and thin.

BTW, there’s a new Pro Apps Update that you can’t get if you don’t update QT first.

Just keep a clone handy and you’ll never have to be concerned about updating.

Tell your friend to run the Pro Apps Updater that only became available after updating QT and rebooting.

I had to do the update a few days ago (for reasons I won’t get into). No problems so far.

[Dave LaRonde] “You can download QT for free, and you can unlock QT Pro for about $35.”

Not certain exactly how that’s germaine.

[Dave LaRonde] “Only the engineering department can do it (they’re the system administrators, y’know), and they TRY to keep abreast of software developments. Sometimes thy need a little information.”

That must be frustrating as all get out. I only found the Pro Apps Update by accident myself. It was just on a whim that I ran the Apple Software one more time after rebooting following the QT update. There were of course no communications anywhere from Apple on the subject in my Inbox, although their marketing dept. does manage to reach me whenever there’s something new I can buy.

[Dave LaRonde] “• You download the newer version of QT
    • You ALSO download the Pro Apps Update
    • You install the newer version of QT
    • You run the Pro Apps Update
    • Life is good

    Do I have it straight?”

I haven’t tested everything yet Dave, but it seems that is the ticket. I can tell you that so far I have encountered no issues such as the person who earlier wrote that they were unable to open an older project in 6.0.3. Given your situation with the IT Dept., you might wait for a while to see what else pops up over time.

Having nothing to lose (Compressor’s been giving me trouble with Leopard, the latest being simply stalling while the remaining time keeps going up), I installed QT 7.4.5 and then the Pro Apps update.

    Now Compressor works properly!

Funny, I allowed the updates to go and Compressor still stalls constantly. As far as I can tell, this latest update has done zero to our system.
