  • Quicktime 7 won’t show in Render menu

I have purchased and installed Quicktime 7.0.4 and it still won’t show in my list of options for rendering. Quicktime 6 is there but not 7.
    I’m running Vegas 6.0d (build 210).

Is my Vegas screwed up or is there something special I have to do to make Vegas use Quicktime 7?
    Thanks.

I am not sure that Quicktime 7 will show in the Vegas render menu, you might have to render to DV-AVI from Vegas and then convert to whatever you wanted to convert to using QT7 with from the QT player. This is relatively easy to do, but…

Why would you? QT7 is of horrible, horrible, horrible quality on the Windows platform at least. I have been able to do about two renders with it, and they were both poor, took an enormous amount of time, and in general were not worth it.

If you need to render to some QT format, I’d recommend getting another product. The only feature I saw (this was before it was as good in Vegas as it is in 6d) was the H.264 encoding, and quite frankly, I can’t think of any worse experience with any piece of software of any kind than the one I had with trying to make QT7 encode som H.264.

What you describe is what I’ve been doing. I’ve been rendering an uncompressed avi from Vegas then in QT7 I export it to H264. Its worked ok for me so far but then again I have not had experience using any other product for making such conversion. I’d prefer to do the encoing directly from Vegas so that I don’t have to go through two steps.
Any products you know of that do a better H264 encoding? And are they usable within Vegas or do I use them as an external encoder?

    Thanks.

Vegas 6.0d has two file format plug-ins for encoding H.264- export as Sony AVC/AAC for PSP output, or as MainConcept AVC/AAC for other flavors, including video ipod & HD.

Sure. Vegas. Version 6.0d includes the MainConcept H.264 encoder.
